Participates as an active team member of a multi-functional team by underwriting workers' compensation policies based on best business practices, team goals and objectives, sound judgment and all relevant facts. Develops and maintains agency relationships to achieve success with new business goals, retention of renewals and loss experience consistent with company and team goals and objectives.

Responds to customer inquiries and conducts field visits with policyholders and agents. Continuously seeks effective relationships with team members, agents and policyholders by following best practices. Identifies trending and underwriting practices that could impact the team's book of business. Interacts with team members, policyholders, agents, loss prevention, premium audit and technical specialists.

Job specifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance, finance, risk management, business or related field preferred.
  • At least two to four years' underwriting (workers' compensation and/or casualty) experience required and can be substituted for four-year degree.
  • Professional insurance designations (CPCU, ARM) a plus.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of state applicable workers' compensation rules and regulations, NCCI rules and its application to underwriting.
  • Understanding of insurance finance.
  • Ability to evaluate accounts for acceptability and insurability.
  • Strong marketing skills.
  • Strong oral communication skills in order to interact in a team environment and to collaborate with other business units and a diverse group of customers.
  • Ability to assimilate, understand and analyze information from a variety of sources.
  • Strong math skills to calculate and evaluate policy premiums, loss ratios and retentions.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

As a Claims Representative your responsibilities will include managing an assigned caseload; investigating and determining liability on claims of reported injury or occupational disease; determining appropriate reserving; authorizing payment of medical and wage loss benefits; and assigning, directing, and monitoring medical, rehabilitation and legal services. You'll participate as an active team member of a multi-functional team that includes underwriters, loss prevention representatives and nurses, by proactively reducing loss costs and improving the quality of claim management by identifying claim management issues.

Responds to customer inquiries and conducts field visits with policyholders, agents and injured workers. Continuously seeks effective case management working with team members and technical specialists and by following best practices, pursuing cost containment and prompt closure of claim files. Identifies trending and claims management practices that could impact the team's book of business. Interacts with team members, policyholders, agents, legal counsel, physicians, nurses, rehabilitation consultants and injured workers.

  • One to five years' claims adjusting (workers' compensation and/or casualty) experience required and can be substituted for four-year degree.

Duties include managing and maintaining helpdesk phone line and assigns work orders for incoming calls to the proper person, while maintaining helpdesk problem tracking system. Troubleshoots phone system related problems and assists with phone system server upgrades.

Responsible for providing computer operating system and application support to internal customers by answering questions, troubleshooting problems and solving basic hardware and Microsoft Office products software issues. Job specifications:
