Company NewsWalgreens exits cost-control network; SFM pharmacy users directed to switch BLOOMINGTON, Minn., January 12, 2012— Walgreens in early January failed to reach a contractual agreement with Express Scripts, which administers SFM's pharmacy benefits management program. "Injured employees who use Walgreens to fill their work injury-related prescriptions should be receiving letters directing them to switch to other network pharmacies," said Rose Hatmaker, SFM Medical Services Manager. Over the next six months, Express Scripts plans to transition Walgreens users to other network pharmacies while honoring in-network pricing for those still using Walgreens. More than 50,000 alternative pharmacies are available through the pharmacy benefits program managed by Express Scripts, based in St. Louis, Mo. Other participating pharmacies include: Albertson's, Cashwise, Coborn's, Cub Foods, CVS, Econofoods, HealthPartners, Hy-Vee, Kmart, Medicine Shoppe, Meijer, Pamida, Rainbow, Rite Aid, Safeway, Sam's Club, Shopko, Snyder's, Target, Thrifty White Drug and WalMart. Policyholders are encouraged to remind their injured employees who have been using Walgreens that they should go to a different pharmacy in order to stay within the network. Policyholders may contact their SFM claims representatives for more information or to find out which employees are using Walgreens to fill their work injury prescriptions.
