  Minnesota -- Pure premium levels increase 1.7 percent  
 

Minnesota workers' compensation pure premium "rates" for 2009 are up 1.7 percent, the first time that pure premiums have increased since 2003 and only the third time since 1994.

 
  First half 2008 -- SFM's policy retention remains strong  
 

More than 93 percent of policyholders renewed their SFM coverage through July '08, continuing SFM's exceptionally strong policyholder retention.

 
  New law -- Contractors will need to certify independent status effective Jan. 1  
 

Independent contractors working in the Minnesota commercial or residential construction trade will need
to obtain Independent Contractor Exemption Certificates beginning Jan. 1.

 
  Applications -- Agents using SAM for more than half of their submissions to SFM  
 

57 percent of the applications submitted by agents to SFM have been submitted through SAM since the new system launched. Total number of applications submitted to SFM by all methods is up about 23 percent.

 
  Minnesota Chamber of Commerce -- SFM participating on safety committee  
 

SFM representatives plan to participate on the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce's newly formed safety committee. The chamber is looking for additional members to participate.
