Frequently Asked QuestionsWill I be paid if I miss work to see a doctor?Try to schedule medical appointments outside of work hours. If it's not possible, schedule the appointment at the beginning or end of the day. If your employer doesn't cover the lost work time, SFM will determine whether you are eligible for lost wages. You would need to send SFM your pay stub for this pay period. What about prescription medication?You have received a sheet "Getting prescriptions filled" which lists participating pharmacies that you should use. Show the "Prescription services identification" card to the pharmacist so he doesn't charge you for work-injury related prescriptions. If you didn't receive your identification card in the mail or have misplaced it, please call your SFM claims representative. What if I receive a bill?You should not receive any medical bills if SFM has accepted liability for your claim. If you do receive a bill, have your supervisor send it directly to your SFM claims representative. Can I lose my job because I got hurt?It's against the law to discharge an employee because he or she was injured at work. But, like any other employee, you could lose your job if you fail to show up or your performance is poor. What if I can't return to my job?Your employer should have identified transitional jobs you can perform within your medical restrictions until you are able to return to your original job. If you have ongoing problems, SFM may assign a telephonic nurse case manager to work with you, your employer and physician. If you are unable to work with your pre-injury employer or if your recovery is prolonged, SFM may assign a rehabilitation consultant to work with you. The rehabilitation consultant will help you get back to work.
