Corporate Giving

SFM: A leader in workers' compensation, a leader in the community

As a specialized workers' compensation insurer, SFM partners with agents, employers and vendors to keep employees safe at work and to return injured workers to health and productivity.

As a concerned corporate citizen, SFM invests company resources in non-profit organizations and causes that improve and enrich the lives of people in the surrounding community. SFM accepts requests from organizations and individuals who submit donation requests to support worthy causes.

Areas of support

SFM prefers to support local organizations in communities where our policyholders do business and where our employees reside. Because we are in the business of preventing and mitigating workplace injuries and of rehabilitating injured employees, and because we value our own employees and contract agents as our most important assets, we concentrate our charitable giving in the following areas:

  • Safety training and loss mitigation: Programs designed to improve safety, especially in the workplace such as workplace and/or domestic violence prevention programs
  • Disabilities: Programs that focus on training and rehabilitation for individuals with work-related or other disabilities
  • Education: Insurance industry education and post-secondary education, especially for programs related to risk management, insurance and loss prevention
  • Community/economic development: Programs that focus on business growth and vitality in the areas in which SFM operates
  • Civic responsibility and enrichment: Programs that enhance the quality of life for area citizens
  • Research and prevention of diseases: Programs that conduct research on diseases and other afflictions that have affected SFM's employee population

Contributions must be approved by SFM's senior management committee and President and CEO, and must fall within the annual corporate giving budget. Recipient organizations may be listed in SFM's annual report and/or website. Donations will be made either as a direct gift from the company or via matching funds as outlined below. Preference will be given to organizations in which SFM employees, directors or direct contract agents are involved.

Application process and requirements

Those applying for contributions must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Must be a tax-exempt organization under IRC §501(c)(3)
