Robert T. Lund

President and Chief Executive Officer

Bob Lund has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of SFM Mutual Insurance Company since May 2007. He joined SFM in 1998 and was formerly Vice President and General Counsel.

Previously, Mr. Lund held senior executive and general counsel positions at three Twin Cities-based financial services companies and was engaged in private law practice. He is a graduate of Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., and William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Lund is chair of the Minnesota Safety Council Board of Directors, and also serves on the boards of the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Association, the Minnesota Insurance Guaranty Association, and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota. He is also a recent past chair of the Minnesota Client Security Fund Board and the Labor / Management Committee of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

     

 

Terrence L. Miller

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Terry Miller, a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst, joined SFM in 1984. Previously, he practiced nearly five years with KPMG (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co.), the largest international independent auditing firm.

Mr. Miller is a member of the Minnesota State Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, CFA Institute, and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association. He serves on the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Association Actuarial Committee and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota's Tax Committee. Mr. Miller participated in the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Minnesota program. He serves on the Minneapolis Urban League Board of Directors and chairs its Audit Committee.

He is a 1980 honors graduate from the University of Minnesota–Duluth, and in 1987 earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from St. Thomas College, St. Paul, Minn.

     

 

David E. Kaiser

Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Dave Kaiser joined SFM in 1992 as Senior Program Analyst and subsequently served in various leadership capacities in the Information Systems department. He has served as Chief Information Officer since 2005.

Mr. Kaiser is a member of the Minnesota Insurance Federation Information Technology Committee, United Way Emerging Leaders, and is a former Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Metropolitan State University, St. Paul, Minn., and has more than 27 years' experience in Information Technology and 20 years' experience in insurance-related technology.

Mr. Kaiser co-founded the SFM Foundation in 2008 with SFM President and CEO Robert Lund, and currently serves as Executive Director.

     

 

M. Scott Brener

Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Scott Brener has served since 2007 as Vice President and General Counsel at SFM, overseeing the company's strategic claims, fraud, legal, medical, and public affairs' units.

He has held leadership positions and active roles within the Wisconsin Insurance Alliance, IAIABC, Citizens League, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota Safety Council, Insurance Federation of Minnesota, Iowa Insurance Institute, South Dakota Insurance Association, Nebraskans for Workers Compensation Equity and Fairness, and American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds.

Prior to joining SFM, Mr. Brener served Minnesota's prior three governors as a political advisor and in other capacities.

Under the Carlson Administration, he served as Assistant Commissioner and General Counsel for the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. He both created and served as Deputy Commissioner for the Minnesota Office of Technology, and he served in the Office of the Governor as Deputy Director of Cabinet Affairs, providing policy advice on insurance, technology and labor matters.

Mr. Brener subsequently led the government and regulatory division for USWEST/QWEST in Minnesota.

Under the Ventura Administration, he served as Assistant Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development until establishing the Brener Group, a legislative and regulatory affairs consulting practice.

After being urged to return to the public sector, Mr. Brener served under the Pawlenty Administration as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. He also was elected President of the National Association of Government Labor Officials.

He is a graduate of both Georgetown University, Washington D.C., and Emory School of Law, Atlanta, Ga.

     

 

Michael L. Happe

Senior Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Planning
Executive Vice President, SFM Risk Solutions

Mike Happe, CPCU, joined SFM in 2005. He is a Governor for the national Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Society.

Mr. Happe serves as Chairman of the National Workers Compensation Reinsurance Association, is Commissioner of the Economic Development Commission for the City of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and serves on the Minnesota Homeownership Center Board of Directors. He recently chaired the Supervisory Committee of City-County Federal Credit Union.

Prior to joining SFM, Mr. Happe served as Vice President of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and in leadership positions at two national insurance carriers.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1992, and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in 1996.

Steven T. Sandilla

Vice President, Strategic Business Operations

Steve Sandilla joined SFM in 1991 as a claims representative and subsequently advanced to serve as Claims Supervisor and Large Accounts Business Manager.

As Vice President, Mr. Sandilla oversees SFM's business operations and direct profit and loss in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications in 1990 from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
