SFM Foundation awards record scholarships for children of injured workers

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., June 27, 2017 — The SFM Foundation gave more money than ever this year toward scholarships for the children of injured workers.

The Foundation awarded $285,000 in total scholarships to 14 students whose parents were severely or fatally injured while working for Minnesota, Iowa or Wisconsin employers.

The organization also brought in more money than ever before to fund future scholarships through its annual golf events in Iowa and Minnesota, held May 22 and June 19 respectively. The events raised more than $170,000 total.

"We're so grateful to the donors who allow us to continue to make a greater impact year after year for these students who have faced such challenges," said SFM Foundation President Dave Kaiser. "Much credit also goes to the volunteers who have dedicated themselves to this cause over our nine years."

Since the SFM Foundation was created in 2008, it has awarded 129 scholarships totaling $1.4 million. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic merit, among other factors.
