Life at SFM
What do you look for in a job? Just a paycheck, or a place you love to work?
At SFM, we’re passionate about helping injured workers get their lives back but we’re equally passionate about making sure our employees feel taken care of, too. We care about you and want to help you succeed. And we want you to love what you do.
Here are some of the reasons people love working at SFM.
Employer of choice
-
A top workplace
We have a history of ranking a top employer. We ranked 9th among medium-sized employers in the Star Tribune’s Top 150 Workplaces in Minnesota for 2020 , and we also ranked as a top workplace when we participated in employee surveys in 2011 and 2015. We go to extra lengths to make sure our employees to feel proud, valued and appreciated.
-
A place you can be yourself
We have a relaxed environment that’s professional and friendly. We respect our employees as individuals and encourage them to be open and honest. Be yourself and you’ll be right at home.
-
Work-life balance
You can have flexibility in your schedule and aren’t expected to be plugged in after hours. We know you have a life outside of work and that you will be happier and more productive if we support that.

Hybrid workplace
We know that some employees prefer working remotely while others prefer coming into the office more regularly. We value the flexibility and enhanced work-life balance that remote work provides and strive to maintain flexibility for employees while balancing our business needs, customer service and culture. In June of 2023 we completed a top-to-bottom renovation of our Bloomington headquarters to make it more hybrid-friendly so that when you’re in the office it’s easier to see and collaborate with coworkers, have versatile work space options to accommodate various types of tasks, and make hybrid meetings more effective.
We want our employees to feel proud, valued and appreciated.
Always evolving
-
Constantly learning
We are always learning and growing, both as a company and as individuals. It’s okay if you don’t know all the answers. We actually prefer it that way. Ask questions. Embrace opportunities. Even though we’re the experts, we’re still learning right with you. It’s how we keep our edge.
-
Embracing of technology
We want to provide the best technology possible for our customers and we want the same for our employees. We make sure our employees have easy access to the latest technology and equipment.
-
Openness and collaboration
We learn as much from you as you do from us and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our doors are open. We want to hear your thoughts and ideas.
-
Developing future leaders
If you have a goal, tell us. If you’re willing to work hard we’ll help you reach it — and then work with you to set a new one. Between onsite training, mentoring relationships and a leadership development program, there are many opportunities to grow.
Giving by nature
-
Compassionate and caring
We help injured workers recover and get back to work — not just because it’s our job, but because we genuinely care. Our employees pull together and support one another when life doesn’t always go as planned.
-
Helping those in need
Our desire to give back to those in need is essential to who we are. Our charitable foundation, volunteer and fundraising opportunities, company-wide volunteer day, and annual corporate donations are a few of the ways we support our community.

A fun and healthy place to work
-
Friendly, fun and active
Group activities like bowling, boat trips, picnics, sporting events; and trips to the zoo, parks and botanical gardens are a few of the ways we have fun and get to know each other. And bean bags, bocce ball, shuffleboard and nearby walking paths make it easy to burn off some energy with coworkers when you need a break.
-
Promoting wellness of all kinds
Our wellness program encourages employees to take care of their physical, emotional, mental and financial health. Our summer pickleball league, weekly yoga, massages, fitness challenges and fun events like rock climbing and foot golf let people be active and try new things. We offer free annual health screenings to keep employees engaged in their health. Our free healthy-food-of-the-month program exposes them to new healthy snacks.
Welcoming to all
-
A place for all levels of experience
Our staff includes employees who have been here for 10, 20, even 30+ years; interns, recent grads and everything in-between. We’re a place for all ages and experience levels.
-
Encouraging diversity, equity and inclusion
SFM offers an environment where employees are valued, empowered to support our business and customers, and be recognized for individual and team contributions.
We are committed to hiring, developing and retaining a diverse team, fostering an inclusive culture, and investing in equity across our organization. Having a workforce with a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, ideas and experiences is essential for us to be successful in our jobs and better serve our customers.
-
