Bob has served as president and chief executive officer of SFM since May 2007. He joined SFM in 1998 and was formerly vice president and general counsel.

He previously held senior executive and general counsel positions at three Twin Cities-based financial services companies and was engaged in private law practice. He is a graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Bob serves on the boards of the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Association, the Minnesota Insurance Guaranty Association, and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota. He is also a recent past chair of the Minnesota Safety Council and Minnesota Client Security Fund boards, as well as a former member of the Labor / Management Committee of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

Terry joined SFM in 1984. He is a certified public accountant and holder of the chartered financial analyst designation. He previously practiced with KPMG (formerly Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co.), the largest international independent auditing firm.

He is a member of the Minnesota State Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, CFA Institute, and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association. He serves on the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ Accounting and Financial Issues Committee and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota's Tax Committee. He participated in the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Minnesota program. He is also on the Small Sums board of directors and chairs its Finance Committee.

Terry is an honors graduate from the University of Minnesota–Duluth, and earned a master's degree in business administration from St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dave joined SFM in 1992 as senior program analyst and later held various leadership roles in the Information Systems team. He has been chief information officer since 2005.

He co-founded the SFM Foundation with SFM president and CEO Bob Lund, and currently serves as its president. SFM Foundation provides post-secondary education scholarships to children of parents fatally or seriously injured in work-related accidents. They have committed $1.4 million dollars to support 129 scholarships since their inception in 2008.

Dave earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has more than 34 years of experience in information technology and 27 years of experience in insurance-related technology.

He is a former big brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Scott Brener

Scott joined SFM in 2007. He previously held a wide variety of influential roles in both the public and private sector.

His governmental experience includes the following positions: commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, president of the National Association of Government Labor Officials, assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development, and deputy commissioner for the Minnesota Office of Technology.

His private sector career includes leading the Minnesota government and regulatory division for US West/Qwest, as well as establishing a consulting practice in legislative and regulatory affairs.

Scott is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and Emory School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia.

He has held leadership positions within the Wisconsin Insurance Alliance, IAIABC, Citizens League, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Minnesota Safety Council, Insurance Federation of Minnesota, Iowa Insurance Institute, South Dakota Insurance Association, Nebraskans for Workers’ Compensation Equity and Fairness, and American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds.

Mike joined SFM in 2005. He was previously vice president of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) and held leadership positions at two national insurance carriers.

He is a director of the National Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Association. He is also a commissioner and vice-chair of the Economic Development Commission for the City of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and is on the board for the SFM Foundation and the Minnesota Homeownership Center. He was a governor for the national Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society through 2016.

Mike is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota with bachelor’s and master's degrees in business administration, and holds a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.

Steve joined SFM in 1991 as a claims representative and later advanced to claims supervisor and large accounts business manager before moving into his current role as senior vice president of operations. He oversees SFM's business operations and direct profit and loss.

Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

He serves on the board of directors for the Minnesota Safety Council.

Andy Lynn has been with SFM’s in-house counsel since its inception in 1988. Prior to joining SFM, he worked for another in house counsel and was in private practice for six years. His entire career has been representing employers and insurers in the workers' compensation courts. He has handled hundreds of cases, from hearings at the Office of Administrative Hearings to arguments before the Minnesota Supreme Court.

He was previously co-chair of the Minnesota CLE Workers’ Compensation Institute and lectured at various other workers’ compensation continuing legal education conferences through the years.

He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law.

Meg has been with SFM since 1990. She previously worked as a claims manager and supervisor before becoming vice president of claims.

She is responsible for all aspects of SFM’s claims operations, including regulatory, financial and quality oversight.

She serves on the WCRA Members Services Committee, Minnesota Rehabilitation Review Panel and is a member of the Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Insurer’s Task Force and Minnesota Claim Managers Association.

Meg received a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and graduated from Hamline Law School. She was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in 1984.

Jody has been with SFM since 1991. She started in SFM’s in-house law firm and transitioned to Human Resources in 1997, eventually becoming vice president of human resources. She oversees the company’s human resources functions along with all facilities management.

She earned the Professional in Human Resource designation (PHR) from the Human Resource Certification Institute. Jody has extensive experience in talent management, leadership development, employee engagement and corporate benefits including wellness programs. As a recipient of SFM’s service excellence award, her leadership has helped to create and build upon a culture of service which is the cornerstone of SFM.

Jody has served as the Human Resource Committee chair and advisor of the American Association of State Compensation Funds (AASCIF) and as a Human Resources Committee member of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC).

Brian joined SFM in 2006 as director of underwriting and was promoted to vice president, director of underwriting in 2010.

He is responsible for setting enterprise-wide underwriting and policy servicing direction and has regulatory compliance responsibilities. Brian also oversees the loss prevention technical function and premium audit operations at SFM.

Brian is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and received his Master’s of Science degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. He earned an Associate in Risk Management and has a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.

He serves on the board of the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Insurers Association.

Andy joined SFM in 2007 as a senior web developer. He later became director of communications and social media and was promoted to his current role as vice president of communications in 2016. He held positions in communications and information services at a variety of Twin Cities companies prior to joining SFM.

He previously served as the chair of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds Information Technology Committee and is currently the chair of their Communications Committee.

Medical director

Dr. Janiga joined SFM Companies in 1987 as its president and medical director. He is also the medical director of Federal Cartridge and Pentair Technical Solutions (Hoffman Engineering) and president and CEO of Occupational Health Consultants of Minnesota, Inc.

He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Medical School and is board certified in occupational medicine.

Dr. Janiga has extensive experience in workers' compensation and disability management. He is a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Central States Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association, the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Hennepin County Medical Association, and the Minnesota Medical Association. He is a preceptor in the HealthPartners Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency, and a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Tim has served as president and chief operating officer for CompRehab, Inc., an SFM company, since April 2006. He joined CompRehab in 2001 as a qualified rehabilitation consultant.

Tim has a broad background in rehabilitation. He is a licensed occupational therapist, a certified rehabilitation counselor, and qualified rehabilitation consultant. He has an undergraduate degree in occupational therapy, graduate degree in rehabilitation counseling, and has worked in the rehabilitation field since 1978. He has worked in hospital and clinical settings as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. He has managed health services, disability benefits and employee assistance for a large self-insured employer.

He is a member of Minnesota Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (MARP) and is an approved provider for vocational rehabilitation in the Union Construction Workers' Compensation Program (UCWCP).

Chris joined SFM in 1995 as a staff accountant and was promoted to corporate controller and director of finance in 2013. He oversees the Finance Team and is responsible for financial and regulatory reporting, budgeting and annual financial audits.

Prior to joining SFM he held accounting positions at Mendakota Country Club and NordicTrack.

He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He is an inactive certified public accountant.

Amanda Aponte, FCAS, MAAA

Actuary and director of analytics

Amanda joined SFM as an actuarial intern in 2007. She worked as an actuarial analyst/actuary from 2008 until 2016 when she was promoted to director of analytics.

As an actuary, she is involved in SFM’s reserve analyses, ratemaking and pricing, reinsurance selection and investment planning. She also oversees the Analytics Team, which provides business intelligence reporting to the organization.

Amanda graduated summa cum laude from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial science and a minor in mathematics. She earned her Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation in 2013.

She is a member of the Casualty Actuarial Society, American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Insurer Association (MWCIA) Actuarial Committee, Workers’ Compensation Reinsurance Association (WCRA) Actuarial Committee.

Kathy joined SFM Companies in 2007. She serves as corporate counsel with SFM, providing management oversight of the Medical Services team. She also represents SFM and its policyholders in workers’ compensation proceedings as staff defense counsel through Lynn, Scharfenberg & Hollick.

Before joining SFM, she spent over 15 years in private practice, advising employers in workers’ compensation and employment matters, including disputes that involved ADA, FMLA and other discrimination litigation.

She is a mediator and arbitrator for Minnesota’s Union Construction Workers' Compensation Program, and a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs and related industry meetings. She is a contributor and co-author of one of the chapters to Minnesota Continuing Legal Education’s “Workers’ Compensation Deskbook” which is widely recognized as an authoritative secondary source on Minnesota workers’ compensation law.

Kathy graduated cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and has her undergraduate degree in business from the University of Denver. She lives and works out of an office in Duluth, Minnesota.

Chad started at SFM in 2003 as a systems administrator and advanced to various leadership roles within the Information Services Team before becoming director of information services in 2016. He manages the development and quality assurance teams and oversees the development of SFM’s custom internal applications and websites.

He previously worked at Chart Industries as a systems administrator managing 13 sites worldwide with a small team of others.

Director of medical services

Ceil has been with SFM since 2013. She is responsible for managing the Medical Services team which includes in-house bill review, telephonic medical case management audits and resource, nurse drug review program, medical vendor and provider management, and SFM’s consulting physicians. She also coordinates the occupational medicine resident rotations at SFM and in-services on medical topics and issues.

She received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. She has been a certified case manager since 2000.

Ceil is a member of the Insurance Rehabilitation Study Group (IRSG) and serves on the Medical Issues Committee of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC).

He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and serves on the legal committee of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds. He was also accepted to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Minnesota program.

Debra has been with SFM Companies since 1987 and held various claims, underwriting and leadership roles before becoming business manager of SFM Risk Solutions’ third-party administration business. She is responsible for the leadership and development of the TPA business which includes managing existing account services, new business development, and overseeing TPA claims staff.

She serves on the board of directors for the Minnesota Employers Workers’ Compensation Alliance and is an associate member. She is also an associate member of the Minnesota Chapter Risk and insurance Management Society and Iowa Self-Insurers Association, and member of the Minnesota Claim Managers Association and Professional Insurance Women.

Debra earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and is a licensed independent casualty adjuster with the State of Minnesota.

Mark has been with Barrier Free Access, Inc. (BFA) since 1991 and SFM Companies since 2016.

He has over 30 years of business and construction experience. Mark cofounded BFA in 1991 as a division of a small family-owned company and has developed it into a regional firm providing expert services and solutions to safely enhance the lives of patients and caregivers throughout the continuum of care. BFA became a subsidiary of SFM Risk Solutions on June 30, 2016.

While previously serving on the board of directors for both the Rochester Area Builders and Habitat for Humanity, Mark led the quick build of a new Habitat home over the course of two weekends with hundreds of volunteers and donated products and services.

Dr. Baker has been a medical consultant with SFM Companies since 2001. She earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota and is board certified in occupational medicine, medical toxicology and internal medicine.

She was a staff physician at the HealthPartners Occupational Medicine Residency for 18 years and was a prior residency director.

She is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and co-director of their occupational and environmental medicine course.

She received the Minnesota Medical Association's Presidents Award in 2014.

Dr. Baker is president and founder of Medical and Toxicology Consulting Services, Ltd., and has served as a consultant for SFM, 3M, Canadian Pacific Railway, University of Minnesota Employee Health Services and Fairview Employee Health Services. She is the chief medical officer for the Canadian Pacific Railway.
She is a past chair and current member of the MSRB, the chair of the Residency Review Committee for Preventive Medicine, and a member of the Exam Writing Committee for the American Board of Preventive Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and the American College of Medical Toxicology. She is also secretary/treasurer of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM).

Dr. Reiner has been a medical consultant with SFM Companies since 2014. She is also an on-call staff physician in the HealthPartners Occupational Medicine Department. Through HealthPartners, she provides occasional medical consulting services to Dow Water and Xcel Energy.

She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and received her master’s degree in public health from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. She completed a residency in occupational medicine from HealthPartners in Saint Paul, Minnesota and is board certified in occupational medicine.

Cheryl joined SFM Companies in 1998. Prior to that, she clerked for Judge Michael Sovis in the 10th Judicial District located in Hastings, Minnesota and then went into private practice in workers' compensation insurance defense.

In addition to Minnesota workers' compensation law, Cheryl also specializes in workers' comp law in Nebraska and South Dakota and assists SFM claims representatives with legal questions in those states.

Tom joined SFM Companies in 2006. Prior to that he practiced for six years in Florida before returning to Minnesota in 2006.

He worked for an insurance defense firm in Miami, Florida and specialized in motor vehicle accident litigation and fraud investigation. Tom is still admitted to practice in the State of Florida as well as Minnesota. In addition to defending workers’ compensation claims with LSH, Tom handles subrogation claims and is the attorney representative of SFM's Special Investigations Team.

After law school, he was a judicial law clerk for Judge Warren Litinski in the 5th Judicial District in St. Peter, Minnesota and then worked in private practice doing insurance defense and subrogation before joining LSH.

He is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota and can assist in all areas of workers’ compensation including subrogation. He has presented at numerous CLEs and seminars speaking on topics impacting workers' compensation and the intertwining with employment law.

She is active in Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, Minnesota Women Lawyers and the New Lawyers Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. She has done pro bono work in taxation and family law, and also held legal research positions for Hamline University and a local bus company.

Jessica is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota.

Mary Ann Blade of Plymouth, Minnesota, has been on the SFM board of directors since 2008. She is a former chief executive officer of the Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency (MVNA), a position she held from 1990 until her retirement in 2011. The MVNA is the largest public health nursing agency in Minnesota.

She was also the president of the Hospice of the Twin Cities, and was on the membership committee of the Visiting Nurse Associations of America. She is the author of "Risk Taking in Joint Ventures," which addresses the relationships between the public sector and non-profit corporations.

She received her BS in nursing with a minor in psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

He is also the board chair for the Catholic United Financial Credit Union, board president of the Catholic United Financial Foundation, and board chair of the American Fraternal Alliance.

She serves on the Board of Governors at the National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research.She is a member of Professional Insurance Women and former member of the Assurex Global Research & Development Committee.

Bob Lund of Plymouth, Minnesota, has served as president and chief executive officer of SFM Mutual Insurance Company since May 2007. He joined SFM in 1998 and was formerly vice president and general counsel.

He is chair of the Minnesota Safety Council board of directors, and also serves on the boards of the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Association, the Minnesota Insurance Guaranty Association and the Insurance Federation of Minnesota.

Rob McIntyre of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, joined the SFM board of directors in May of 2017. He is the branch president of The Horton Group based in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

He received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Northern Michigan University and master’s degree in business administration from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He holds MBA, ARM, CPCU, CIC and CRM designations and is a member of multiple advisory boards, including the SFM Advisory Council.

Clayton Tyler of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been on the SFM board of directors since 1999. He has been a practicing attorney for over 30 years in personal injury, public law, criminal defense and family law and is principal of F. Clayton Tyler, P.A. in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He is a former board member of the Minneapolis Urban League, co-chair of the Cultural Diversity Task Force Community and Business Outreach Program at the University of Minnesota, former chair of the Finance Committee at Pilgrim Baptist Church, and founder/chair of the Minnesota Minority Junior Golf Program. He is a member of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, American Trial Lawyers Association, Minnesota State Bar Association and Hennepin County Bar Association.

He earned his bachelors’ degree from Augsburg College, master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School.
