Being The Work Comp Experts is paying dividends, as SFM continues to grow in market share.

Licensed in 34 states, SFM is recognized as a top workers’ compensation carrier, delivering unparalleled service, consistent results, support for injured workers and ease of doing business.

“We’re very much guided by our mission: protecting workers from harm and helping the injured recover,” said Ryan Jirak, VP of Regional Business. “That mission drives every claim, every premium audit and every conversation.”

Employers understand that SFM is there for them every step of the way, helping contribute to our 93% retention rate and remarkable rates of businesses that left SFM only to return later.

SNL Financial, a data analytics firm within the S&P Global organization, issues an annual insurance industry study that compares market share and ranks carriers within each state of operation. The latest figures were released this spring, showing how SFM continues to garner additional work comp market share.

Looking at specific examples, the rankings for a few states include:

  • Minnesota – 1
  • South Dakota – 4
  • Iowa – 7
  • Nebraska – 7
  • Wisconsin – 9

Meanwhile, SFM’s 2025 market rank has shown more pronounced growth in Kansas, Indiana and Tennessee. The market share rankings increased by seven spots in Kansas, nine spots in Indiana and a whopping 20 spots in Tennessee from the prior year.

“We’re growing, and we’re growing profitably and selectively,” said Mike Happe, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “The work comp market continues to be challenging, so it’s promising to see that we’re maintaining that upward trajectory.”

At SFM, we write business thoughtfully – without being at the whim of shifting market conditions. For agents, that stability translates into confidence, continuity and fewer surprises when servicing accounts.

This approach benefits everyone involved:

  • Agents get a carrier partner that values certainty, transparency and sustainable results
  • Employers get dependable management of their coverage
  • Injured workers get consistent support, focused on outcomes

“Agents know that when they place a client with SFM, they’re choosing a carrier that prioritizes safety, empathy and long-term outcomes,” said Shawn Miner, VP of Regional Business. “That’s why we continue to see growth as our reputation spreads among agents and policyholders.”
