Underwriting philosophy
SFM is interested in employers who care about safety and want a long-term partnership with their workers’ comp carrier. Our underwriters look for employers that are committed to providing a safe workplace, are interested in long-term cost reduction, and prepared to return injured employees to meaningful work while they heal.
Broad range of coverage
We insure small, midsize and large employers in a wide range of industries across 34 states. We offer fast quoting and competitive pricing for small businesses, and customized solutions such as large deductible and retention plans for large employers.
Better outcomes
When your clients choose SFM, our experienced, locally-based claims representatives will manage the claim well and ensure the best possible outcome for the injured worker and employer. Many policyholders insured by SFM also see substantial long-term improvements in their workers’ compensation experience modification factors (e-mod) over time.
Assigned risk coverage
Our SFM Safe rate set gives many employers previously covered by state assigned risk plans a lower-cost option, and allows us to write additional classes of business. These rates are available in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas, Indiana and Tennessee.
Reporting and claim tools
SFM offers a work injury hotline for reporting injuries as well as a digital claim portal for injured workers to access claim details, monitor payments, sign up for alerts and access materials to bring along to their medical appointments.
School and health care specialists
We insure many school districts throughout the region and offer specialized loss prevention services and safety resources specifically designed to prevent common injuries in school and health care settings.
