If your business is unable to obtain workers’ compensation coverage through a voluntary market insurer, you may receive coverage through your state’s workers’ compensation assigned risk pool or plan. SFM provides coverage for employers who are part of this pool in Wisconsin. Returning an injured employee to work as soon as medically possible benefits both the employee and employer. Getting a worker back on the job — even in a limited or light-duty capacity — can reduce the likelihood of litigation and help control work comp claim costs, which affect future premiums. Even if injured employees can’t return to their regular jobs right away, bring them back as soon as possible by providing light-duty/modified-duty tasks. See our Why return to work matters blog post for more information.
Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Assigned Risk Pool employers have the option to report injuries online, by phone at 833-949-4336 or by fax. See full details here.
It’s important to note that SFM policyholders outside of the Wisconsin Assigned Risk pool, self-insured (TPA) clients and Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Assign Risk Plan clients have different reporting instructions.
Light-duty/transitional work includes tasks that can be provided while the injured employee is on light-duty restrictions. Light-duty options can include pre-injury job functions or different tasks, as long as the duties are within light-duty restrictions. You can create jobs/tasks to accommodate light-duty restrictions, but the work needs to be meaningful and should be temporary. Create a list of potential light-duty jobs that you can draw from if the need arises. SFM offers lists by industry to help you get started in identifying transitional work.
As an SFM policyholder with coverage through the Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Assigned Risk Pool, it is your responsibility to pay all premium payments when they are due to avoid a lapse in your coverage. Payments can be made online or by mail. Renewal payments must be received prior to the renewal policy’s effective date. If you have billing questions, call the Wisconsin Assigned Risk Pool billing department at 833-949-4336 or email us. Click here for full details.
